MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Construction and Utility Surveyor in the Technical Services Division. Reporting to the Survey Services Supervisor, you will perform construction and design survey requests, including the survey services required for the location of MMSD's underground assets.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate field marking responsibilities for the Digger's Hotline program. 
  • Perform survey requests related to design, construction, planning, and preliminary engineering. This includes topographic surveys, control surveys, construction stakeouts, settlement monitoring, as-built surveys, and lowest adjacent grade elevational surveys.  
  • Manage the responsibilities of the landfill gas pipeline operator qualified certification program, including training, corrosion coupon changing, monitoring of test stations, exercising of the main valves during an emergency, and overall compliance.  
  • Investigate and document deficient asset records using underground and above-ground technology as well as confined space entry into underground facilities.
  • Draft computer-aided design (CAD) deliverables, such as topographic surfaces, site surveys, and construction stakeout exhibits.  
  • Remain current with changes in technology and industry best practices. Manage unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sensors and software to ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and updates.
  • Assist other survey staff with assignments as necessary, including UAV surveying, boundary surveying, and terrestrial scanning.  
  • Maintain proficiency in other land surveying specialties.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.  
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in land surveying, civil engineering, geomatics, or a related field.
  • Four years of job-related experience (advanced education degrees will be considered in lieu of experience). 
  • Professional Land Surveyor license required.  
  • CAD software, survey data processing software, and survey field instrumentation proficiency.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records and field notes to deliver industry standard work products.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of OSHA confined space entry procedures.  
  • Computer software proficiency.
  • Confined space entry and CPR certifications (provided by MMSD).
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record at time of application, during the selection process, and throughout employment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force.
  • Work regularly requires standing and using hands.  Work frequently requires walking, speaking, hearing, climbing or balancing, and reaching with hands and arms.  Work occasionally requires sitting, kneeling or crawling, pushing or pulling, and repetitive motions.  
  • Ability to access a confined space through a 20-inch diameter opening.
Sensory Requirements:
  • Work has standard vision requirements.  Vocal communication is required for expressing ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities. 
Environmental Exposures:
  • Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.  Work occasionally requires working near moving, mechanical parts.  
  • Work is generally in a loud noise location (heavy traffic, large equipment, etc.).
